Dental Implant Seminar
Q: I recently had several crowns done on my lower front teeth which show when I speak. Some of the crowns were over implants, some over natural teeth and some were actually veneers. Unfortunately, they all look different from one another, color-wise. How could this have been prevented?
A: Great topic, as I just installed six lower front teeth on a seasonal patient with a similar situation. (Interesting lady; related to one of the top comedy writers in the country who wrote for Carson and Leno. I shared some of my own material with her relative, who then mysteriously had a stroke.)
When I am doing metal free, all porcelain crowns over dissimilar teeth, I have to meet with the lab and design special coatings which line the inside of the crowns to make them all match. Otherwise, implants will give a gray tinge to the crowns, veneers will have a yellow tinge and full crowns will be too white, and opaque like a Chicklet.
The gum line also needs to be treated with a laser that I use, to make it even with the adjacent teeth, otherwise your gum line will resemble the Coney Island rollercoaster. (Zing!)
