Q: Is searching the Internet accurate for dental issues?

A: The short answer is “no”. The long answer is “noooooooooo.”

Example: When one Google’s: “I had a tooth pulled” and it stilled hurts, Dr. Siri Google MD (Medical Distortionist) notoriously spits out: “you have a dry socket.” This is completely wrong in most cases. How do I know? Dry socket, a painful but rapidly self-resolving side effect of a tooth extraction is usually found after the removal of women’s lower back molars, during menstruation or on birth control pills and smokers. So when I patient named Bob calls up and states he had an upper front tooth removed and thinks he has a dry socket, I know he has been pounding his keyboard at 4 am.
