Transform Your Smile with Dental Veneers

Transform Your Smile with Dental Veneers

Aug 01, 2019

As we age, our teeth usually start to weaken and wear down. They also lose their brightness and can become stained. If your smile has accumulated some chips or stains and you are looking for a solution to improving its appearance, dental veneers may be the answer you’re looking for. This cosmetic dentistry procedure is available at Dr. Mitchell Josephs’ Cosmetic, Implant and General Dentistry in Palm Beach, FL.

What are veneers?

Dental veneers are thin shells that are custom-fitted to cover the front surface of the teeth. They can be used to correct mild to moderate cosmetic flaws such as:

  • Cracked or chipped teeth
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Gapped teeth
  • Poorly-shaped or poorly-sized teeth

Benefits of veneers

The biggest benefit of veneers is probably their versatility and how easy it is to have them placed. Veneers are generally the only option available to makeover a smile without the need for multiple cosmetic dental procedures. Additionally, veneers are stain-resistant and durable; with good care, veneers can be expected to last 10-30 years.

Procedure

The procedure for having veneers is quick and non-invasive. First, your teeth will be prepared. They will be shaved down a small portion to create sufficient room for the veneers. Then, an anesthetic will be used to minimize pain and discomfort. After that, an impression and photographs will be taken of the prepared teeth. This information will then be sent to a dental laboratory where the veneers will be created. Temporary veneers will be fitted at the end of this appointment to keep the teeth protected until your next appointment.

Once the veneers have been completed, you will return to Dr. Josephs’ Dentistry to have the temporary veneers removed. The permanent veneers will be fitted onto the prepared teeth and adjustments can be made before a bonding agent is applied to secure them in place. The fit will be checked once more to ensure that the veneers fit with your bite before you leave.
